One of the key lessons for leadership that came through in my Thrive Neurodiveristy education to become an instructor partner was a reminder that a good leader will be talking to their team and creating an environment that allows every team member (no matter their neurodiversity) to be at their best … even on a bad day.

For a neurodivergent team member, this means understanding the reasonable adjustments that can be made which could be (to name just a few):

  • setting aside a quiet, safe space as a retreat from sensory overload;

  • giving clear, concise communications with no colloquiums using both verbal and written channels to aid literal information processors;

  • procuring technology that reads written text; and,

  • not taking offence for a team member’s bluntness.

Note too how all these adjustments will benefit everyone in your team.

The sessions I can now train, consider the strengths that creating a neurodiverse and inclusive organisation culture will bring and also the accommodations to be made to create that environment.
